By The Associated Press

LONDON (AP) ' Hundreds of mourners are expected to attend the funeral of TV host Jimmy Savile, an eccentric British cultural icon who weathered changing fashions and entertainment eras.

Savile, known for his multicolored tracksuits and ever-present cigar, died Oct. 29 in his home town of Leeds, northern England, aged 84.

He is being celebrated Wednesday with a requiem Mass at the city's St. Anne's Cathedral.

Savile was the longtime host of the BBC's "Top Of The Pops" music show, and the wish-granting program "Jim'll Fix It."

On Tuesday thousands paid their last respects in front of his gold-colored coffin in Leeds' Queen's Hotel.

In keeping with his last wishes, Savile will be buried Thursday in the resort town of Scarborough ' at a 45-degree angle in the earth, looking out over the sea.
