Geno: Griner had 'pretty good' chance at US team
Auriemma says Griner had 'pretty good' chance of making London team if she hadn't withdrawn
By The Associated Press

DALLAS (AP) ' U.S. coach Geno Auriemma says Baylor standout Brittney Griner's chances of making the team for the London Olympics were "pretty good" had she not withdrawn.

Auriemma says there aren't many other Americans ' or players in other countries, for that matter ' who are Griner's size and have her skills. The 6-foot-8 center led Baylor to this year's national title, and is the first NCAA player with 2,000 career points and 500 blocked shots. She averaged 12.8 points and 7.3 rebounds a game during the 2011 European Tour with USA Basketball.

Considered a candidate for the 12th and final spot on the U.S. roster, Griner withdrew from consideration last month, citing an unspecified family illness and her summer school schedule. Griner later broke her right wrist in a longboard accident.
