Georgia man convicted in plot to seize courthouse
Jury convicts Georgia man in 'birther' plot to seize Tennessee courthouse, oust Obama
By The Associated Press

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) ' A jury has convicted a Georgia man of a federal firearms charge in what authorities said was a plot to take over a Tennessee courthouse and force President Barack Obama out of office.

The jury convicted Darren Wesley Huff on Tuesday in Knoxville of carrying a firearm in interstate commerce with the intent to use it in a civil disorder. He was acquitted of using a firearm in relation to another felony.

Huff was arrested in 2010 after telling officers he brought his firearms from Georgia into Tennessee to support efforts to arrest Monroe County officials who refused to indict Obama.

He once belonged to the 'birther' movement that disputes Obama's U.S. citizenship, but told jurors he never said he planned to take over the courthouse.
