Google Science Fair Winner Brittany Wenger Touts Cancer Detecting Artificial Brain

By DMO Affiliate
THE 2012 GOOGLE SCIENCE FAIR WINNERS WERE JUST ANNOUNCED, SO ADULTS--GET READY TO FEEL LIKE GIANT LUMPS OF COUCH DISCHARGE. THE STANDOUT AMONG THE THRONGS OF BRILLIANT TEEN SCIENTISTS WAS 17 YEAR OLD BRITTANY WENGER, A HIGH SCHOOL JUNIOR THAT MANAGED TO PROGRAM AN ARTIFICIAL BRAIN BASED ON GOOGLE'S OWN RECENTLY RELEASED NEURAL NETWORK. GOOGLE'S BRAIN LEARNED TO RECOGNIZE CATS. HOWEVER, BRITTANY'S BRAIN LEARNED TO DIAGNOSE BREAST CANCER. WITH 94% ACCURACY. DESPITE THE HUMILIATION, GOOGLE WERE GOOD SPORTS AND AWARDED BRITTANY THE GRAND PRIZE OF 50 THOUSAND SMACKERS, A TRIP TO THE GALAPAGOS, AND A YEAR'S WORTH OF MENTORING AND INTERSHIPS. NOT TOO SHABBY. WHEN I WAS 17, THE HEIGHT OF MY PRODUCTIVITY INVOLVED PROGRAMING THE DVD PLAYER TO SKIP THE DIALOG SCENES IN "TWISTER", BECAUSE WHO WANTS TO SEE THAT?
