Gridlock again as LA bridge demolition is halted
Commuters mired in gridlock again as Los Angeles bridge demolition halted over phone lines
By The Associated Press

MONTEBELLO, Calif. (AP) ' The California Highway Patrol says going is slow on freeways and surface streets around the Los Angeles area overpass being demolished because a tanker truck fire cratered the road and cracked the concrete on the bridge.

CHP officer Francisco Villalobos says don't expect any traffic breaks. It will not be a typical Friday light commute.

He says volume on alternate freeways is jammed for miles and getting worse.

California Department of Transportation officials had hoped to reopen the freeway Friday afternoon, but when they found damaged phone lines Thursday night, they pushed that to the weekend.

The freeway through Montebello has been closed since the truck fire at noon Wednesday.
