SS United States conservation group taking survey of items still existing from the famed ship
By The Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA (AP) ' Do you have any artifacts from the legendary ocean liner SS United States, like artwork, linens or menus?

If so, the nonprofit working to preserve the historic ship wants to hear from you.

The SS United States Conservancy said Monday that it's starting to compile an inventory of the vessel's existing furnishings, advertisements and other artifacts.

The conservancy's website has a survey for anyone who might have such items.

The conservancy said the survey doesn't mean they're looking for collectors to donate their treasures. They say the goal is to eventually make the information available for researchers and historians.

The SS United States set the trans-Atlantic speed record on its maiden voyage in 1952. It has been berthed at a South Philadelphia pier since 1996.
