Activist group says clashes have spread to 2nd county in Tibetan region in China
BEIJING (AP) ' An overseas Tibetan activist group says clashes between ethnic Tibetans and Chinese security forces have spread to a second area in southwestern China.
Free Tibet said Wednesday that a clash that left two Tibetans dead took place the day before in Seda county in politically sensitive Ganzi prefecture in Sichuan province.
A Tibetan monks said about 30 Tibetans were injured Monday when Chinese police fired into a crowd of protesters in neighboring Luhuo county. He said the wounded were seeking shelter in a monastery while military forces surrounded the building.
The violence in the counties comes amid high tensions after at least 16 Buddhist monks, nuns and other Tibetans have set themselves on fire in protest in the past year.
