Hawaii Republican presidential caucus sites open

By The Associated Press

HONOLULU (AP) ' Hawaii Republicans are heading to caucus sites around the state cast ballots for the candidate of their choice.

The state GOP is holding its first binding caucus from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Seventeen of the state's 20 Republicans will be proportionally awarded to candidates based solely on caucus results. This new transparency is intended to draw out the party faithful and attract new members by sending a message that all votes count.

The caucus drew the attention from the presidential campaigns. Three campaigns sent family representatives to the islands.

Matt Romney, son of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney; Elizabeth Santorum, daughter of former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum; and Ronnie Paul, Jr., son of Texas Rep. Ron Paul, have been in the islands rallying support for their fathers.
