Hearing starts on Strauss-Kahn's request to get NYC hotel maid's lawsuit dismissed
NEW YORK (AP) ' A judge has opened a hearing on Dominique Strauss-Kahn's bid to get a New York hotel maid's lawsuit against him thrown out.
Wednesday's hearing comes as the former International Monetary Fund chief faces fresh charges in his native France amid a prostitution investigation.
In New York, Strauss-Kahn was charged with attempted rape after his encounter with the maid last May. The case was dropped after prosecutors lost faith in her credibility. Still, she vowed to have her day in court and sued Strauss-Kahn.
Neither the 33-year-old woman nor the former French presidential candidate is at Wednesday's hearing. It's expected to deal with whether Strauss-Kahn has diplomatic immunity from the lawsuit.
French authorities are investigating a suspected prostitution ring allegedly involving him, prominent city figures and police.
