Sheriff's spokesman: At least some homes destroyed by fast-growing Colorado wildfire
By The Associated Press

CONIFER, Colo. (AP) ' A wildfire has erupted amid dry, windy weather in Colorado, and authorities say at least some homes have been destroyed in the mountains west of Denver.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department said Monday the fire has spread to 4 square miles in a matter of hours and residents of more than 900 homes have received evacuation orders.

Jefferson County sheriff's spokesman Mark Techmeyer says it's not clear how many houses have been destroyed.

Up to a dozen smaller fires have been reported from the northeast Colorado plains to the southern part of the state. There are no immediate reports of injuries or structures destroyed in any of the other fires, but at least two homes have been evacuated.
