Up in Hattiesburg, Southern Miss is home to yet another Conference USA pitcher of the week honor, going to Nick Sandlin for the second time this season. On Saturday, the junior right-hander continued his domination of opposing hitters, striking out 14 of them for the second time this year across seven innings of shutout baseball. In addition, Sandlin is also the recipient of a Louisville Slugger award as Collegiate Baseball’s National Player of the Week. Through five starts in 2018, Sandlin has a microscopic 1.32 ERA over 34 innings of work to go along with 55 strikeouts compared to just three walks.   [READ MORE]

Less than 24 hours prior to his arrival in Oxford, Kermit Davis Jr. was coaching his last game for Middle Tennessee in the NIT. Today, he had to turn the page in a hurry for his official introduction as the next head men’s basketball coach at Ole Miss. This evening, Davis became the 22nd head man of the Rebels, who are coming off their first and only losing season of the Andy Kennedy era. Davis had similar success during his 16 years with the Blue Raiders despite last night’s 84-68 loss to Louisville. MTSU had just one losing campaign under Coach Davis, not to mention seven league championships over the past nine seasons. A native of Leaksville, Mississippi, Davis brings a winning tradition back to his home state where he’s all in on resurrecting the Ole Miss basketball program. “The process goes on and when I met with Chancellor Vitter and Ross, it was just one of those things that I knew it was the right place for me. Like I said up there, I wanted to align myself with leadership that I trust. Aggressive-thinking leadership, and obviously a leadership that is committed. They are all in with Ole Miss basketball. And so the infrastructure is there, and obviously the things that I feel like coming home to Mississippi, being in the Southeastern Conference, it was all just a perfect fit for me.” Davis inherits a roster featuring three seniors, three juniors, and four sophomores.   [READ MORE]
