House expected to pass measure that would undermine labor case against Boeing Co.
WASHINGTON (AP) ' The House is poised to pass a bill that would undermine the government's labor case against Boeing Co. by curtailing the National Labor Relations Board's enforcement power.
The measure would prohibit the board from ordering any employer to shut down plants or relocate work, even if a company violates labor laws. Unions claim it would harm workers' rights.
House Republicans say the board should not have the power to dictate where a private business can locate. GOP lawmakers have vilified the NLRB for filing a lawsuit that alleges Boeing punished union workers in Washington state when it opened a new plant in right-to-work South Carolina. Boeing denies the allegations.
The bill is likely to pass the House on Thursday but is not expected to get far in the Democratic-controlled Senate.
