Hurricane Jova makes landfall on Mexico's coast
Hurricane Jova makes landfall in the Mexican state of Jalisco as a Category 2 storm
By The Associated Press

MIAMI (AP) ' Hurricane Jova has made landfall in the Mexican state of Jalisco as a Category 2 storm.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Jova's maximum sustained winds early Wednesday are near 100 mph (160 kph) with steady weakening expected as the storm moves inland.

Jova is centered about 65 miles (100 kilometers) west-northwest of Manzanillo, Mexico, and is moving north-northeast.

As the storm's leading rain bands began swatting at the coast Tuesday night, heavy rain fell in the port city of Manzanillo and strong winds made palm trees sway.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Irwin regained some strength farther out in the Pacific with winds near 45 mph (72 kph). While it's expected to move eastward toward land, forecasts indicate it probably won't make landfall.
