IOC investigates possible Athens doping positives
IOC investigating possible positive cases from retests of 2004 Athens samples
By The Associated Press

LONDON (AP) The IOC is investigating suspected positive cases uncovered in retesting of doping samples from the 2004 Athens Olympics.

IOC medical commission chairman Arne Ljungqvist tells The Associated Press that up to five suspicious results have been reported by the drug-testing laboratory in Lausanne, Switzerland.

He says the IOC is studying the findings to decide whether to test the backup "B'' samples. Until then, they are "adverse analytical findings" and not official positives.

Ljungqvist declined to identify the athletes or sports that produced the suspicious tests.

The IOC decided in May to retest Athens samples to catch any drug cheats who escaped detection at the time.

The IOC stores samples for eight years. The statute of limitations runs out later this summer.
