IOC seeks government help to fight doping, betting
Rogge urges governments to help IOC combat doping, cheating and illegal betting
By The Associated Press

DURBAN, South Africa (AP) ' IOC President Jacques Rogge says the sports world needs help from governments to crack down on doping, cheating and illegal betting.

Rogge says there is "no room for complacency" in the Olympic movement's fight to preserve a level playing field for athletes.

He says "protecting the integrity of sport is a priority for the IOC."

Rogge spoke on Tuesday at the ceremonial opening of the International Olympic Committee's 123rd session in Durban.

On Wednesday, the IOC will select the host city for the 2018 Winter Games.

Rogge cited the problems of doping, judging and refereeing, and illegal and irregular betting.

He says "in all these areas, cooperation with governments is essential."
