In death, young Fla. Marine gives life to comrade
Fla. marine who died in training donates kidney to Calif. comrade in final act of brotherhood
By The Associated Press

PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) ' A Marine in Florida who died during training has donated a kidney to one of his comrades in California.

Lt. Patrick Wayland's heart stopped earlier this month during water survival training at the Pensacola Naval Air Station. The 24-year-old Wayland had signed up to be an organ donor. As he was on life support, his family decided a kidney should be donated to a fellow Marine.

So a doctor who treated Wayland searched on the Internet and found Sgt. Jacob Chadwick. The 23-year-old Chadwick had a serious kidney disease and was undergoing dialysis each day at Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Chadwick received the organ Aug. 7 and doctors say he is recovering.
