Ind. Amish community mourns 2 children killed in pony cart crash; 2 others critically injured
MIDDLEBURY, Ind. (AP) ' An Amish community is mourning two girls killed when their horse-drawn carriage collided with an SUV on a rural Indiana road. Three of their siblings remain hospitalized, two with critical injuries.
Authorities say 10-year-old Jenna Miller and 7-year-old Jolisa Miller were killed Monday in the crash involving the SUV and the cart operated by their 10-year-old sister. The accident happened in Middlebury, about 30 miles east of South Bend.
Police say there's no law restricting what age children must be to operate horse-drawn vehicles along Indiana roadways. It's not unusual for Amish children to drive pony carts.
The driver of the cart Jeneva Miller and her 4-year-old brother Jared Miller were listed in critical condition Tuesday. Nine-year-old sister Joyce Miller is in fair condition.
The SUV driver was not injured.
