Indian home minister says Mumbai blasts kill at least 17, appear to be terrorist attack

MUMBAI, India (AP) ' A top local official says three explosions that shook India's financial capital have killed at least 17 people and wounded 81 others.

The blasts hit three crowded neighborhoods within minutes of each other during rush hour Wednesday evening. The attack came nearly three years after Pakistan-based militants laid siege to the city of Mumbai, killing 166 people.

Prithviraj Chavan, the top official in the state of Maharashtra, said the latest attack killed 17 people.



India's Home Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram said officials believed "it was a coordinated attack by terrorists."
