Indian Kashmir shuts down in protest over alleged abduction, rape of a woman by troops
SRINAGAR, India (AP) ' Shops and businesses are closed in Indian-controlled Kashmir as residents follow separatists' calls for a daylong strike to protest a woman's alleged abduction and rape by army soldiers.
Banks, schools and most other businesses are shuttered in Kashmir's main city of Srinagar, where public transport is not running. Few government workers have shown up at their offices.
Meanwhile, police and paramilitary soldiers are patrolling a village south of Srinagar where violent anti-India protests have swelled over the past two days against the alleged attack against the 25-year-old village woman.
Police on Saturday banned gatherings of more than five people in Manzgam village.
