JERUSALEM (AP) ' Israel's prime minister is making new moves to try to save unauthorized settlement construction in the West Bank from demolition.
Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement on Wednesday that he has asked the attorney general to find a way to save the unauthorized Ulpana outpost from a Supreme Court demolition order. Five apartment buildings are to be razed by May 1.
Netanyahu says he also plans to provide the necessary approvals to legitimize three other unauthorized enclaves where hundreds of Jewish settlers live.
On Monday, Netanyahu blocked the military's order to evict settlers from a building in the West Bank city of Hebron that they occupied illegally.
Israeli settlement construction is a major obstacle to peacemaking with the Palestinians.
