Israel's Olmert says he has 'no intention' of going back into politics
JERUSALEM (AP) ¯¯¯ Two days after being acquitted of the central charges in a corruption trial, former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert says he's not going back to politics.
Speculation that he'll return to political life has been rife since a Jerusalem court dismissed most of the charges against Olmert. including that he illicitly took cash-stuffed envelopes from an American supporter and double billed Jewish organizations to cover overseas travel.
He was convicted only on a lesser charge of steering government contracts to a friend's clients.
Olmert said in Tel Aviv on Thursday he has "no intention of entering politics."
His close aide Jacob Galanti said earlier that Olmert wouldn't decide whether to re-enter politics until his trial in a separate real estate bribery case ends. The case is expected to take another year.
