Italy's PM: No nation can fight debt crisis alone
PM Monti: Italy doing its part to fight crisis _ now rest of EU must do the same
By The Associated Press

ROME (AP) ' Italy's new premier says his government is doing its part to overcome the European debt crisis and has called on other EU nations to do the same.

Premier Mario Monti in a speech Saturday in northern Italy also warned that no European country is strong enough to go it alone in the face of the global economy. He didn't single out any country, but some critics have felt that Germany has been putting its own economic policy ahead of EU-wide interests.

The Italian premier, who was appointed in November to try to save Italy from financial disaster, says Europe must have a common policy for growth. He praised Italy's "decisive" actions of late, including its quick adoption of spending cuts, new taxes and pension reform.
