West Coasters relish seeing long shadow of seismic disaster cast east for a change
LOS ANGELES (AP) ' The reaction to the East Coast earthquake is triggering a degree of mockery from the seismically active West Coast, where similar-sized quakes happen on a regular basis and rarely become a national media obsession.
All the more laughable to some on the West Coast are the images of people fleeing buildings ' the exact opposite of what people are supposed to do in a quake.
One Alaska television anchorman tweeted: "Hey East Coast, the entire West Coast is mocking you right now."
Video game critic Marcus Beer says he was amused by how much media attention the relatively minor temblor was receiving.
Tuesday's quake was the East Coast's largest since 1944. California alone has seen 35 quakes of that size since then.
