Former church janitor accused of fatally stabbing NJ priest testifies that cleric abused him
MORRISTOWN, N.J. (AP) ' A former church janitor accused of killing a New Jersey priest has told jurors the priest touched him sexually in exchange for keeping silent about the janitor's outstanding arrest warrant.
Jose Feliciano is accused of fatally stabbing the Rev. Edward Hinds in 2009 in the rectory of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Chatham. Prosecutors say Feliciano murdered the priest because he was going to fire him.
Feliciano has admitted the killing but seeks a lesser charge of manslaughter.
The Star-Ledger (http://bit.ly/tnuVcb) reports that Feliciano testified Monday that he told Hinds in 2003 he couldn't comply with a mandatory employee fingerprinting program because of an outstanding warrant for indecent assault on a 7-year-old girl.
Feliciano says Hinds agreed to keep the information secret but in exchange took sexual liberties with him.
