Judge could limit testimony in John Edwards case
Lawyers for John Edwards want federal judge to limit testimony by former aide Andrew Young
By The Associated Press

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) ' A federal judge is scheduled to hear oral arguments over what a longtime aide to former presidential contender John Edwards can say at his upcoming criminal trial.

Judge Catherine C. Eagles has scheduled a hearing for Thursday. Edwards' trial has been delayed while the former senator undergoes treatment for a heart condition.

Edwards' lawyers and prosecutors submitted court filings last month over anticipated testimony from Andrew Young about conversations he had with heiress Rachel "Bunny" Mellon and campaign finance chairman Fred Baron about money used to help hide Edwards' pregnant mistress.

Defense lawyers said Young's testimony would amount to hearsay, since Baron is dead and the 101-year-old Mellon is too frail to testify. Young is expected to be a key witness for the prosecution.
