Judge urged to reconsider Honda settlement
San Diego judge urged to reconsider Honda settlement over hybrid vehicles' fuel economy claims
By The Associated Press

SAN DIEGO (AP) ' A San Diego judge is giving no signs that he will reconsider his tentative approval of a settlement agreement that would give owners of Honda Civic hybrids up to $200 cash over claims that fuel economy was inflated.

Superior Court Judge Timothy Taylor listened to nearly two hours of arguments Friday before saying he would issue a final ruling soon. He gave no timetable.

His tentative ruling would give between $100 and $200 ' plus rebates ' to owners of about 200,000 vehicles from model years 2003 to 2009. It also would award plaintiff attorneys more than $8 million.

The judge cast aside arguments that a Los Angeles woman's small-claims court award of nearly $10,000 entitled consumers to more money. Heather Peters addressed the judge in court, but the judge appeared unconvinced by her arguments.
