Afghan government says Afghan border police killed, wounded after checkpoints attacked in east
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) ' Afghan President Hamid Karzai says an undisclosed number of Afghan border policemen have been killed and wounded after an estimated 150 militants attacked checkpoints along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.
The Afghan Ministry of Interior says the border policemen came under attack early Tuesday in Kunar and Nuristan provinces. The ministry says 20 militants were killed in several hours of fighting, but did not disclose the number of border police casualties.
In a statement Tuesday evening, Karzai says the government of Pakistan must prevent any kind of terrorist attacks launched from its soil into Afghanistan.
