Kasie Hunt to join Associated Press as national political reporter

WASHINGTON (AP) ' Kasie Hunt, who has covered national politics on the campaign trail and policy debates in Congress, has been named a political reporter for The Associated Press based in Washington.

The appointment was announced Friday by Sally Buzbee, the AP's Washington bureau chief.

Hunt joins the AP from Politico, where she has covered the emerging race for the GOP nomination in the early primary states of Iowa and New Hampshire. For Politico, she also covered the 2010 midterm elections, including the Republican takeover of the U.S. House.

Working from the AP's Washington bureau and frequently on the campaign trail, Hunt will help cover the GOP candidates vying to compete against President Barack Obama and then follow the general election campaign through 2012.

"Kasie is an aggressive source reporter with a strong sense of how politics and policy interact. As she pursues the twists and turns in the race to come, a main goal will be providing clarity on what those developments actually mean for the country and how it will be governed," Buzbee said.

Before joining Politico, Hunt covered health care, labor and education and the 2008 campaign for National Journal's CongressDaily. She has also written for USA Today, National Journal magazine and the AP, and her work has appeared in The Washington Post and on She is a multiformat journalist trained in video production and has also appeared on MSNBC, CNN and CBS News.

Hunt is a graduate of George Washington University and holds a master's degree in sociology from the University of Cambridge, where she was a member of St John's College; her studies focused on political communication.
