Amish teen in Kentucky killed when unmarked buggy struck by sport-utility vehicle
CUB RUN, Ky. (AP) ' An Amish teenager in Kentucky has died after his small buggy was struck from behind by a sport-utility vehicle on a rural road.
Eighteen-year-old Aaron Byler was thrown from the buggy by the collision late Thursday afternoon near Munfordville. He died while being airlifted to a hospital.
The driver of the 1992 Chevrolet Blazer that struck Byler's buggy was treated at a local hospital and released. Police say the crash remains under investigation.
Kentucky State Police said the buggy did not have a reflective orange triangle mounted on the back to improve visibility. A neighbor said the buggy was a smaller two-wheeled harness, rather than a conventional four-wheeled buggy.
The reflectors have been opposed by some more conservative Amish, but a neighbor of Byler's family said they normally used them.
