Landslide hits Canada town; 4 thought missing
4 thought missing after landslide hits Canada town, flattens homes
By The Associated Press

JOHNSONS LANDING, British Columbia (AP) ¯¯¯ A frantic mother says three family members are missing after a landslide crushed several homes in a tiny western Canada community.

Lynn Migdal said Friday she hopes her two daughters and ex-husband are still alive after their home in British Columbia was engulfed by debris Thursday.

Also thought to be missing is a German tourist.

Unstable conditions forced search efforts to be called off at least once Thursday, but Central Kootenay Regional District spokesman Bill McPherson said early Friday that emergency crews hoped to resume work soon.

Midgal, speaking from Florida, says one of her daughters spoke to a friend just before the landslide hit and said they were in the home.
