Lawyer: Head trauma caused death of Calif. homeless man in violent confrontation with police
By The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) ' The attorney for the family of a mentally ill man who died following a violent confrontation with six Fullerton police officers has released his medical records, saying he died of head trauma that led to brain death.

The records, released Wednesday, say Kelly Thomas died five days after his July 5 arrest and suffered numerous medical complications including kidney failure.

Attorneys also released 11 computer-generated images based on Thomas's medical records that show he had multiple broken bones in his face and cracked ribs.

Lawyer Garo Mardirossian (mar-deh-ROH-see-uhn) said at least one officer repeatedly smashed Thomas's face with the butt of a stun gun.

None of the officers have been arrested and no charges have been filed against them.
