Lewd conduct by 1 teacher prompts lesson bans
Los Angeles school district bans blindfolds, butter in lessons because of teacher conduct case
By The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) ' The Los Angeles Unified School District says fourth grade students will no longer be blindfolded for lessons about how to use the senses. And making butter at one school has been banned.

The bans follow the arrest of Miramonte Elementary teacher Mark Berndt, who has pleaded not guilty to 23 counts of lewd conduct for allegedly photographing students who were blindfolded as he spoon-fed them his semen.

The Los Angeles Times ( ) reports an administrator sent a Feb. 23 memo saying blindfolding might be negatively perceived because of the Berndt case.

The butter-making was banned at one school because students ate it on crackers when they were done. Berndt is accused of serving his students tainted cookies.

At least one former school board member says administrators are overreacting.
