Lions DT Fairley has surgery on left foot
Lions rookie DT Nick Fairley has surgery on left foot, will miss "significant portion" of camp

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) ' Detroit Lions rookie defensive tackle Nick Fairley had surgery on his injured left foot Wednesday.

The team says in a statement that he will a "significant portion" of training camp.

Fairley, the Lombardi Trophy winner at national champion Auburn last season, was injured Monday and in a walking cast a day later after X-rays showed no significant damage.



He was sent to Charlotte, N.C., for further evaluation Wednesday morning, and Dr. Bob Anderson performed the surgery. The team did not provide details on the procedure.

The 6-4, 298-pound Fairley was drafted 13th in April's draft to complement a line that includes tackles Ndamukong Suh and Kyle Vanden Bosch.

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) ' The Detroit Lions have sent rookie defensive tackle Nick Fairley to a specialist for evaluation of his injured left foot.

He's scheduled to see the specialist in Charlotte, N.C., on Wednesday.

The Lombardi Trophy winner for national champion Auburn left practice Monday. Fairley was on the field in a walking cast the following day after X-rays revealed no significant injury.

Coach Jim Schwartz said he expected to know more about Fairley's condition later Wednesday. The team selected him 13th in the draft to complement a line that features tackles Ndamukong Suh and Kyle Vanden Bosch.
