Maine town holds candlelight vigil for missing toddler as search area expands
WATERVILLE, Maine (AP) ' More than 60 people gathered in a Maine church in a candlelight vigil for a toddler who has been missing for nearly a week.
Many of those who attended the service Wednesday evening for Ayla Reynolds were mothers with young children. Participants prayed, sang hymns and offered searchers encouragement.
Cori Cote held her 16-month-old daughter before the vigil in Waterville and said she wants to support the missing girl's family.
She says "I couldn't imagine losing my little girl" and wants Ayla back safe.
Authorities are searching streams, ponds and rivers and expanding their search area farther from the home of Ayla's father.
He reported her missing Saturday after putting her to bed Friday night.
