Man fatally shot by deputies after Northern Calif. manhunt that closed main freeway for hours
By The Associated Press

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) ' Sacramento authorities have fatally shot a man at an apartment complex following an exchange of gunfire and manhunt spurred by a series of carjackings that led to a 6 hour closure of one of Northern California's busiest freeways.

Sacramento sheriff's spokesman Deputy Jason Ramos said authorities have not identified the man who was killed after the gunfire exchange, and are calling him a possible suspect.

The chase began around 6 a.m., when officers began pursuing a stolen white pickup truck, with the driver firing gunshots as he fled.

The driver ultimately crashed and ran away before police said he hot-wired a tractor that he drove to the scene of another carjacking.
