Man gets prison for NY part of art-theft spree
Man gets prison for stealing $350K drawing as part of string of art thefts in NY, Calif.
By The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) ' A wine steward who went on a bicoastal art-theft spree is headed to prison in New York after being jailed in California.

Mark Lugo said he was sorry as he was sentenced Tuesday to one to three years behind bars. But he could be released in six months if he succeeds in a boot camp-style program.

The 31-year-old Lugo pleaded guilty Feb. 7 to taking a $350,000 drawing by Cubist painter Fernand Leger (fur-NAHN' leh-ZHEHR') from a lobby gallery at Manhattan's Carlyle Hotel.

The Manhattan district attorney says Lugo lifted art off hotel walls, then used them to line his own in Hoboken, N.J.

Lugo spent more than four months in jail in California last year after pleading guilty to grabbing a $275,000 Picasso off a San Francisco gallery wall.
