Rescue crews free woman, work to dislodge man stuck overnight in cave at Iowa state park
MAQUOKETA, Iowa (AP) ' Rescue crews are working to free a man trapped in a cave at an Iowa state park.
Park Ranger Scot Dykstra says visitors discovered two people lodged in Wye (Y) Cave at Maquoketa Caves State Park about 8 p.m. Friday and alerted park staff.
Rescue crews from Maquoketa and Quad Cities were able to free the woman about 1 a.m. Saturday and continue to work to dislodge the man.
Rescuers have made verbal contact with the man, who Dykstra says became stuck while crawling through a narrow part of the cave.
The couple's names have not been released. The woman was treated at the scene.
The state park is northwest of Maquoketa, about half-way between Des Moines and Chicago. It features several caves visitors can explore on their own.
