Boston Marathon advises inexperienced runners to skip race because of hot weather forecast
By The Associated Press

BOSTON (AP) ' The organizers of the Boston Marathon are advising inexperienced runners and those with medical conditions not to run in Monday's race because of temperatures that are expected to rise into the high 80s in the afternoon.

The Boston Athletic Association says runners who do not start can register for next year's race.

Organizers will also keep the course open for an extra hour on race day, until 6 p.m. And there will be plenty of water and medical staff on hand.

Temperatures are expected to be around 70 degrees in Hopkinton at the start but rise to the high 80s at the Boston finish line during the afternoon.

That can be dangerous for runners not accustomed to running in heat.
