Marino's yardage record in jeopardy
Dan Marino's single-season passing record in jeopardy as NFL teams throw more than ever
By The Associated Press

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) ' Dan Marino figures it's just a matter of time before his single-season passing yardage record falls.

Marino set the record of 5,084 yards in 1984, but if the league's quarterbacks continue at their current pace this season, New England's Tom Brady, New Orleans' Drew Brees, Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers, Dallas' Tony Romo and Carolina rookie Cam Newton all would surpass his total.

Marino, now a CBS Sports studio analyst, is a bit surprised that his record has lasted so long.

It's not just the top players who are producing eye-popping numbers. Through five weeks, minus Monday night's Chicago-Detroit game, the NFL is producing 489.7 combined yards passing per game. That's well ahead of the full season record of 443.1 yards per game set last season.
