Mexico: 2 US citizens killed in prison fight
Mexican authorities say 2 US citizens died in a prison fight in Ciudad Juarez
By The Associated Press

EL PASO, Texas (AP) ' Mexican authorities say two U.S. citizens were among 17 inmates killed in a prison near the Texas border when other inmates armed with automatic weapons opened fire on them.

Prison spokesman Hector Conde said Thursday that 35-year-old Los Angeles native Nicolas Frias Salas and 28-year-old Luis Adrian Estrada Perez of El Paso were among the dead. Authorities say many others were wounded in the incident Monday night in Ciudad Juarez.

Prosecutors in Chihuahua state are investigating reports that before the shootings inmates had a party and were allowed to bring in guns and women, violating prison rules.

U.S. consulate spokeswoman Olga Bashbush said prison authorities informed the consulate about the deaths, but it could not confirm they were citizens until the relatives identified the corpses.
