Migrant's widow welcomes US probe of border death
Widow welcomes grand jury probe of death of Mexican shot with stun gun by US border officials
By The Associated Press

SAN DIEGO (AP) ¯¯¯ The widow of an illegal immigrant from Mexico who was shot with a stun gun by U.S. border officials welcomes a federal grand jury investigation into her husband's death.

Maria Pugo told reporters Thursday in San Diego that she considers the probe a step toward justice. She accuses U.S. border officials of excessive force in the 2010 shooting at a San Diego border crossing.

Migrant activists who joined Pugo at a news conference say they hope for criminal charges.

Family attorney Eugene Iredale tells The Associated Press that the U.S. Justice Department's civil rights division is presenting evidence to the grand jury in the death of 42-year-old Anastasio Hernandez.
