Mistrial declared in LA obscenity case
Obscenity retrial of adult film producer in Los Angeles ends in mistrial
By The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) ' A federal judge in Los Angeles has declared a mistrial in the case of an adult film producer facing obscenity charges.

Defense attorney Roger Diamond says U.S. District Judge George King on Tuesday declared a mistrial after jurors voted 10-2 in favor of convicting Ira Isaacs on various obscenity charges.

Isaacs was indicted several years ago as part of an effort by the Bush administration to crack down on smut in the United States.

However, Isaacs' 2008 trial was halted after the Los Angeles Times reported that case overseer Alex Kozinski, chief judge of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, had sexually explicit material on a personal website.

Isaacs has maintained his work is an extreme but constitutionally protected form of art.
