Monstrous Hurricane Dora trudges away from land; Mexico ends storm watch
By The Associated Press

MIAMI (AP) ' Hurricane Dora is getting stronger as it moves away from Mexico, and the government there has discontinued its tropical storm watch.

Forecasters say the Category 4 storms' top winds have increased to 135 mph (215 kph) early Thursday as it moved to the west-northwest. The storm's center was located about 210 miles (340 kilometers) south-southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico.

The fourth hurricane of the eastern Pacific season was forecast to stay offshore. It's forecast to strengthen some before weakening on Friday.

In the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Cindy formed well out to sea and posed no threat to land. Tropical Storm Bret was forecast to weaken as it moved away from the Bahamas and well off the U.S. Atlantic coast.
