Musical harmony: NKorean, French orchestras play
Musical harmony fills diplomatic void as North Korean and French orchestras play a concert
By The Associated Press

PARIS (AP) ' A North Korean and a French orchestra have performed a landmark Paris concert, despite long-standing tensions between Pyongyang and the West.

Under the baton of noted South Korean conductor Chung Myung-Whun, North Korea's Unhasu Orchestra and Radio France Philharmonic played together on Wednesday night to a packed house at the Salle Pleyel music hall.

First violinist for Radio France Svetlin Roussev said before the performance that "there is a real symbiosis after only four rehearsals."

Crediting "Maestro Chung," who organized the event, she said: "We are witnessing a historical moment."

Most of the 90 North Koreans ' many under 30 ' are performing with a Western ensemble for the first time.

North Korea has long been one of the world's most isolated nations.
