NBA owners' dual wants put more games in jeopardy
NBA owners have goals in negotiations, and might be willing to sit a while to get them
By The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) ' NBA owners have their priorities, and playing games isn't first on that list.

The league is looking beyond this month, and maybe even beyond this season, for the opportunity to make a few bucks after years of sizeable losses.

Owners want to reshape the league by implementing a system in which spending is capped and small-market teams can truly compete with the big boys.

After labor talks with players broke down Thursday, San Antonio Spurs owner Peter Holt didn't deny that owners would be willing to sit out the season, like the NHL did, to get what they want, saying "there are certain things that we feel we must have. "

That includes a more restrictive salary cap and no more than a 50-50 split of revenues.
