11-year-old NH girl who disappeared from home and was found dead in river is laid to rest
LANCASTER, N.H. (AP) ' An 11-year-old northern New Hampshire girl whose body was found a week ago in a river has been laid to rest in a private ceremony.
Celina Cass was buried Monday in Lancaster, 40 miles from her hometown of Stewartstown.
Family members and friends were gathering to mourn her at a school gymnasium in neighboring Vermont where she played basketball. The celebration of her life was scheduled Monday night at the Canaan School.
Samples of the girl's artwork plus photographs, stuffed animals and other keepsakes sat on tables flanking the podium where a picture of Celina was placed.
Celina disappeared from home a week before her body was found. Her death has been called suspicious.
An autopsy failed to determine the cause of her death. Toxicology tests are pending.
