NJ Muslims, officials to discuss NYPD surveillance
NJ Muslim leaders to meet again with state officials on NYPD surveillance program
By The Associated Press

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) ' New Jersey Muslim leaders who attended a March meeting with the state's attorney general say they've been invited back to Trenton this week for a follow-up discussion.

It will focus on the state's response to revelations that the New York Police Department conducted secret surveillance of Muslims in New Jersey.

Muslim leaders and others critical of the NYPD's activities hope the AG will announce at Thursday's meeting a formal investigation into the NYPD's activities in New Jersey, although several privately expressed doubt that would be the result.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Newark Mayor Cory Booker spoke out against the program at the time. The NYPD conducted operations in Newark.

NYPD officials have defended it as lawful.

The attorney general's office did not immediately return a call Monday seeking comment.
