NYC comptroller reconsidering political bid
NYC comptroller's campaign treasurer arrested; comptroller reconsidering 2013 political bid
By The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) ' New York City's comptroller says he plans to reassess whether to run for office in 2013 following the arrest of his campaign treasurer in a continuing probe of fundraising efforts by the Democrat.

Comptroller John Liu is considered a potential successor to Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

He made the remarks Tuesday after his campaign treasurer was arrested on charges she was part of a scheme that used straw donors to funnel large, illegal contributions to the campaign.

Liu had previously said in a statement that he was "stunned" by the charges against Jia Hou (JYAH' HOO').

Defense attorney Martin Adelman said Hou was an "idealistic young woman" who will be seen that way as she fights the charges.

Hou's was the second arrest in the investigation.
