NYC man convicted of manslaughter in cop's death
NYC man convicted of manslaughter in death of police officer who fell 9 feet off a stoop
By The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) ' A New York man who shoved a police officer from a stoop to his death has been convicted of manslaughter.

A Brooklyn jury reached the verdict Wednesday. George Villanueva (vee-YAH'-nweh-vah) faces 30 years in prison when he is sentenced May 23.

Villanueva was found not guilty of a more serious murder charge that could have sent him to prison for life.

Police Officer Alain Schaberger was responding to a domestic violence call made by Villanueva's girlfriend and was on a Brooklyn stoop when he toppled nine feet and broke his neck. Prosecutors say Villanueva shoved the officer to his death. His attorneys say it was an accident.

His family started screaming that he was innocent while Villanueva was being led away.
