Neighbors fret about plan for 'Field of Dreams'
'Is this heaven?' 'Not anymore!': Some 'Field of Dreams' neighbors worry about sports complex
By The Associated Press

DYERSVILLE, Iowa (AP) ' Should we build it, and would they come?

The Iowa town where the "Field of Dreams" movie was filmed is asking those questions as it considers a $38 million plan to turn the farmland around the famous cornfield diamond into a marquee destination for traveling youth baseball teams.

The project could provide an economic jolt to the region of northeastern Iowa and breathe new life into the town of Dyersville's most valuable asset. But it has also unleashed fierce emotions that have pitted neighbors against each other and raised difficult questions for leaders of the town of 4,000.

Mayor Jim Heavens says residents are wrestling with a project that he says "has a high risk, but a high reward." Plans call for building 24 baseball and softball diamonds in 2014.
